The Relocator's Guide to Aspen

No matter the season, there is always plenty to do in Aspen—especially if you’re a fan of the outdoors. During both winter and summer, fly fishing is a popular choice for anglers of any experience level, and Aspen Fly Fishing offers guided excursions to suit your skill. In the winter, go skiing and snowboarding down the slopes of Aspen Snowmass. Hiking one of Aspen’s many trails is an excellent escape into the wilderness during the off-season. Smuggler Mountain is a favorite for fitness junkies, and Mt. Daly’s Nature Trail is perfect for families with adventurous children. Enjoy a family outing biking along the Rio Grande Trail, riding the Silver Queen gondola for a birds-eye view, or playing all day at the Aspen Recreation Center. 

 

Aspen has a plethora of outstanding eateries from which to choose. For a late-night slice of pizza, look no further than New York Pizza. This galley-style pizzeria has been an Aspen staple for more than 25 years, and its doors are open daily until 2 AM during the on-season. Matsuhisa is a glamorous hotspot for Japanese cuisine, including impeccable sushi, craft cocktails, and specialty entrees like Yellowtail Tataki with Yuzu Miso Sauce and Wagyu beef.  Other local restaurants to explore include Betula, French Alpine Bistro, and White House Tavern. 

 

Aspen is a popular choice for families due to its excellent school systems. Notable schools in the Aspen School District include Aspen High School, Aspen Middle School, and Aspen Elementary School. Private school options include Aspen Country Day School and nearby Waldorf School on the Roaring Fork.
